ABOUT THE ENCOUNTER

INTERNATIONAL ENCOUNTER ORGANISED BY LATIN ELEPHANT, TATE EXCHANGE AND WORKING DESOBEDIENCE PLATFORM

This encounter will look at contemporary art practices and colonialism, anti-colonialism and decolonialism in Latinamerica, focusing on the different forms that power takes in the region. It will discuss thought, narratives, practices and their counter approaches in an attempt to begin to visualise new ways of inhabiting the world.

ABOUT THE TEAM

Joselyn Contreras Cerda

Curator and researcher. PhD © in Curatorial Knowledge, Goldsmiths, University of London. Curator Public Programme, Latin Elephant. Working in the intersection between research and practice, understanding them as interconnected tools for developing cultural and political interventions. Her work has been on curatorial thinking; curatorial studies; Latin American contemporary art; museums, galleries and exhibition studies; and decolonialism, focused on South America.

Juan Fabbri

Artist, visual anthropologist and curator. Research Professor of the Institute of Anthropological and Archaeological Research of the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés. He was the curator of the Bolivian Pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennale and also to the 2nd version of South American Biennial - Bienalsur. He is interested in indigenous representation policies and the crossings, links and tensions between anthropology and contemporary art.
